The Oscars - What I Wish They Wore on the Red Carpet

The hyper-critical environment that surrounds starlets looks on the red carpet has never been more intense and with actresses terrified to end up on a worst dressed list, we are left with a group of beautiful women in a variety of beige and black prom dresses.  That's why instead of discussing what the stars wore, I'd rather imagine what they could have worn...

Anne Hathaway won best supporting actress for her role in Les Misrables, and all anyone could talk about were her nipples, visible underneath her white Prada gown (sad trombone). She should have just embraced the pointy look and gone with this Iris Van Herpern Couture spiked gown.

Beautiful Jennifer Lawrence won best actress for her role in Silver Linings Playbook and wore a huge Dior Haute Couture meringue. The dress was so voluminous that it got the best of her as she made her way to the stage and tripped and fell over all that chiffon. She should have gone with a sleek little number like this Julien Macdonald Collection from her Fall 2013 RTW collection.

Adelle won Best Original Song for 'Skyfall' which she performed in a black shimmery dress. As always she looked beautiful but it would have been great to see her in this gorgeous Christian Siriano gown and cape.

Halle Berry is not known for her wins on the red carpet, but she did better this time with a glittery Marchesa gown. That being said,  I would have loved to see her in this Carolina Herrera gown from her 2013 Fall Ready to Wear collection.

Nicole Kidman wore a sequined Balenciaga number but would have been my personal hero if she had rocked this confection from the Spring 2013 Valentino Couture collection.

Zoe Saldana wore an Alexis Mabille gown but really should have considered wearing this Couture Chanel gown from the 2013 spring collection.

Last, but certainly not least is Charlize Theron in her new short do. She wore a beautifully stark Christian Dior Haute Couture gown to great effect,  but wouldn't it have been fun if she wore this Ulyana Sergeenko cape and jumper?!

  4. Absolutely I agree that the starlets play it too safe these days. I was bored with the looks. I disagree with your thoughts on Halle though - she is usually a hit on the red carpet. First time I've heard otherwise about her!
