Gabi Fresh in the Snow

Gabi Gregg is the woman behind the popular blog Gabi Fresh. Her site showcases her amazing style and mega cool personality all while promoting a healthy body image for women.

I took these photos of Gabi outside of Nellcote at the "Fashion Weak" Brunch I hosted with Latterstyle, Avant Blargh and Emerging Thoughts.

Check out Gabi's article on Rookie Mag about the nonsense our society spews about everyone should do their damndest to look as skinny as possible, and therefore certain styles and shade are off limits to us. Well Gabi says it aint so, especially big chicks wearing white or light colors. So here she is looking fabulous in a pale floral print pant and light blue button down. Well done Missy.

Gone with the Wind - New York Fashion Week

The Oscars - What I Wish They Wore on the Red Carpet

The hyper-critical environment that surrounds starlets looks on the red carpet has never been more intense and with actresses terrified to end up on a worst dressed list, we are left with a group of beautiful women in a variety of beige and black prom dresses.  That's why instead of discussing what the stars wore, I'd rather imagine what they could have worn...

Anne Hathaway won best supporting actress for her role in Les Misrables, and all anyone could talk about were her nipples, visible underneath her white Prada gown (sad trombone). She should have just embraced the pointy look and gone with this Iris Van Herpern Couture spiked gown.

Beautiful Jennifer Lawrence won best actress for her role in Silver Linings Playbook and wore a huge Dior Haute Couture meringue. The dress was so voluminous that it got the best of her as she made her way to the stage and tripped and fell over all that chiffon. She should have gone with a sleek little number like this Julien Macdonald Collection from her Fall 2013 RTW collection.

Adelle won Best Original Song for 'Skyfall' which she performed in a black shimmery dress. As always she looked beautiful but it would have been great to see her in this gorgeous Christian Siriano gown and cape.

Halle Berry is not known for her wins on the red carpet, but she did better this time with a glittery Marchesa gown. That being said,  I would have loved to see her in this Carolina Herrera gown from her 2013 Fall Ready to Wear collection.

Nicole Kidman wore a sequined Balenciaga number but would have been my personal hero if she had rocked this confection from the Spring 2013 Valentino Couture collection.

Zoe Saldana wore an Alexis Mabille gown but really should have considered wearing this Couture Chanel gown from the 2013 spring collection.

Last, but certainly not least is Charlize Theron in her new short do. She wore a beautifully stark Christian Dior Haute Couture gown to great effect,  but wouldn't it have been fun if she wore this Ulyana Sergeenko cape and jumper?!

Mia Moretti x Pencey

DJ Mia Moretti was in Chicago for a trunk show at the delightful boutique Sofia with Pencey designer Christina Minasian for their collaboration Mia Moretti x Pencey. The collection is based on a vision of Josephine Baker and the Jazz Age and is a collection of suit jackets, pants, blouses and dresses that allow you to mix and match pattern to your hearts content.

Cleo Wade looks AMAZING in this wild combination of Pencey prints. The flowers in her hair are everything.

DJ Mia Moretti looks pretty as a picture in this green ensemble. Have a look at the photo I took of her at New York Fashion Week last September.

How cool is Pencey designer Christina Minasian's corn row hair here?!

Ashley Zisook is straight up chilling at the counter of her boutiqe Sofia, where one can find the entire Mia Moretti x Pencey collection.

Caitlin Moe is one half of The Dolls, with Mia Moretti. They played at a set at Paris Club later that evening. I'm excited to catch their showcase at SXSW coming up next month.

Mia Moretti, Caitlin Moe and Cleo Wade hangin' at Sofia, get down there to pick up some of these cool pieces at 100 E. Walton Suite 106.

Pantone Color of the Year at New York Fashion Week

In case you haven't heard the very important news, the Pantone color of the year is Emerald Green. As arbitrary as it is to announce one particular color of the year, it's definitely making a splash on the streets. Pantone has been making this annual color proclamation for the past decade based on secretive meetings with the luminaries of the design world.  However, I like to imagine that they un-perforate a bunch of their swatch books, put the contents into an enormous hat and then pluck a random chip out which becomes the color of the year :)

What a gorgeous color pairing, those bright blue pants with that green coat and tie-dyed scarf. She's like a bright tropical fish in the middle of gray new york.

Jena of Chicity Fashion is back with her amazing Jil Sander Leather Lunch Bag Purse
See the whole outfit a couple of posts down

I love so many things about this woman's look. The white hair, the green wool military pea coat, and the green nails! Très Chic.

Last but not least it's Sabrina from the fashion blog Style on the Hill. Her jacket kind of reminds me of a treasured green vintage leather jacket that was stolen out of a bar when I was in college. I still think about that thing to this day. Her bag is a cool iridescent Proenza Schouler Clutch.

Converse Well Worn

A couple of days ago Converse sent me a pair of their new Chuck Taylors from the "Well Worn" collection. If a pair of tattered, broken-in sneakers are the sign of a life well lived, these puppies have been having an AMAZING time in the box. They have the perfect amount of wear, with a soft patina on the toe and a soft washed effect on the canvas.

This got me thinking about my first pair of Chucks many moons ago when I was about 15 years old. They were the low top red varietal which my teenage self gleefully took a sharpie to and customized with various sayings and doodles. Sadly no evidence of these masterpieces exist as this is in the dark pre-iphone/digital camera days. But, here is an image of my adult self in my brand new/well worn grey converse, looking very serious ;)

I've also rounded up some of the best Converse street style I've taken over the past 3 years.  These folks are truly wearing it well...

Crobar Chicago at New York Fashion Week

What a surprise to see Crobar make an appearance at New York Fashion Week outside of the Jeremy Scott Fall 2013 show. It popped up on the back of this woman's jacket who had obviously picked it up second hand. Crobar is a now defunct Chicago club that was located in an area of town that I liked to refer to as the 'Boulevard of Broken Dreams'. Despite the tough biker appearance of this jacket the club was cheesy, wildly unfashionable and packed with douche bags. At least they made this rad jacket ;)

Ladies in Red - New York Fashion Week

I snapped this beautiful woman as she was leaving the Ralph Lauren show on the last day of New York Fashion week. I love the bow around her neck, such a great classic look.

Kelly Framel of the popular blog The Glamourai leaves Lincoln Center in this amazing Honor tomato red coat and Balmain sunglasses.

Luis Torres and Banksy in Chicago

Luis Torres is the man behind Chic Overload, a site that chronicles this 19 year olds' foray into personal style and fashion.

We met up this morning for a delicious Chicago Blog Network brunch that was graciously hosted at Nellcote. Aside from being hands down the best brunch in the city, Nellcote also happens to be right around the corner from Chicago's very own Banksy original.

W is for WOW. These sunglasses are just crazy enough to be a Linda Farrow Joint. Linda Farrow x Walter Van Beirendonck to be exact. The lens piece is actually interchangeable and comes with a variety of different wild shapes.

Like most people, I love miniature things. Puppies, personal pan pizzas, Webster, but most of all I'm obsessed with this mini cross body Celine tote.

It's just another day for Luis in his leather pants and Christian Louboutin spiked loafers. If you want to look luxuriously tough like him  Aldo makes a similiar spiked flat that won't break the bank.

Snapped this model outside of the Jeremy Scott show. How incredible is her hair and makeup?!

Jena Gambaccini - New York Fashion Week

I ran into Ms. Jena of the Chicago blog Chicity Fashion as she was leaving the Nanette Lepore show at New York Fashion week at Lincoln Center.

Loving her "basketball court" SUNO silk sweatshirt and Alexander Wang Boots. Cute Central!

Carine Roitfeld - New York Fashion Week

This is what happens when Carine Roitfeld walks into a show during New York Fashion Week. This particular photog frenzy happened outside the Ralph Lauren show.

Love Serving Love Valentines Day Cards!

Happy Valentine's Day Lovers! What have you got planned for your special sweetie? Nothing, you say?! Quelle horreur ;) Thankfully I just  happened to host a tennis themed Valentine's Day party this past weekend (Entitled "Love Serving Love" or alternately "A Recreational Doubles Valentines Day to Remember") and made these lovely card/decorations for it. Just pick the one you like, print, cut and write something steamy on the back. xoxo
